Mozart's own feelings about the THU city of his birth were ambivalent at best. He was often THU unhappy there; frustrated by the limitations of musical life THU in Salzburg and increasingly at loggerheads with his THU overbearing employer, the high-handed Archbishop Colloredo. THU "How I detest Salzburg", he wrote, and sought to escape the THU place on many occasions. All this week THU Donald Macleod explores the story of Mozart's relationship THU with the place where his genius was forged. Mozart's own feelings about the FRI city of his birth were ambivalent at best. He was often FRI unhappy there; frustrated by the limitations of musical life FRI in Salzburg and increasingly at loggerheads with his FRI overbearing employer, the high-handed Archbishop Colloredo. FRI "How I detest Salzburg", he wrote, and sought to escape the FRI place on many occasions. Nevertheless this was the place FRI where he spent his formative years, where he composed many FRI great works, and where he developed into the composer we now FRI celebrate as one of the greatest of any age. All this week FRI Donald Macleod explores the story of Mozart's relationship FRI with the place where his genius was forged. FRI FRI In 1781, Mozart finally broke free from Salzburg after an FRI acrimonious parting with his employer, Archbishop Colloredo. FRI Vienna would be his new home and the place where Mozart FRI would finally blossom into the great opera composer he had FRI always wanted to be. He visited his home just once more, FRI taking with him one of his very greatest sacred works. FRI FRI Serenade for 13 winds, K361 'Gran partita' (3.
